Welcome to the website for the forthcoming Overlanders' Handbook

Please note: I've already been contacting many overlanders with promising material on their websites, but even if you respond to my request I can't guarantee I'll use it in the Overlanders Handbook. It has to be not too similar to something I may already have, relevant and up to a certain standard. If you're not sure please ask (email at the bottom).

Provisional Contents

Fill out an online trip report
Your web report can be recent or years ago but I prefer genuine overland trips either RTW or in Africa, Asia, outback Australia or Latin America, not touring around Europe, etc. A global range of the better reports will feature in the book (example left) and earn you a contrib's credit and a free copy on publication.

Deadline: none

Text contributions
Boxed asides and anecdotes as featured in my other books are welcome, illustrating an aspect of the subject that does not fit into the body text. Once I know what you've done I may ask you to write about a certain subject, most probably it will be about an area (a nice good example here
). As a guide the best paid contributor ever earned around €500 by submitting various stories and pictures for my recent AMH. View the provisional Contents page.
Deadline: End of October 2007

Submit a 2-3000 word Travellers Tale
Travellers Tales give an impression of life on the road but need not be simple travel narratives (though these are most common); you might like to write in themes; bush mechanics you met, food you ate - or just (part of) your adventure - usually better than the whole trip start to end. Remember it may have been your trip of a lifetime but to others it may well come across as dull unless you have something original to say or an original and humourous way of saying it. Unusual yarns are also welcome: trans-Amazon in a Transit van as opposed to trans Africa by Land Rover.
Please do not send in- or point me towards 57,536 words of blog and propose I 'use the good bits'. Sorry, you must do that for me. Contributions substantially over 3000 words won't be read. I will edit as necessary and get your approval. We will organise an illustration to go with some vivid aspect of your yarn (see above picture) so photos are not needed for travellers tales.
Deadline: End of October 2007

Colour photo section
Like Sahara and AMH, the Overlanders Handbook will have a number of colour spreads with pictures from half a page to a couple of double-pagers (should we get good enough images). Image requirements are similar to the cover, relating to some aspect of overlanding. However good, a general landscape shot with no relation to overlanding won't work, nor in most cases will subjects smiling at the camera.. Again, please don't point me to your unedited web photo archive but please do me a favour and collect what you think are you best shots onto one web page or into a small email. Transparencies or anything digital shot above 5mp will work - sorry, can't use prints.

We're also looking for a brilliant cover shot (the above image is only a dummy) of a vehicle shot in portrait format at high quality.
Deadline: End of November 2007

Many thanks to all contributors.

I will acknowledge your message but, especially with Travellers Tales, may not get around to reading your submission for some time.
